RV TRAVEL
ELLIS BEACH
Ellis Beach Ocean Front Holiday Park has one of the most amazing recovery stories to tell . The park was hemmed in by landslides and covered in mud that washed down from the surrounding hills . They lost a few cabins and a converted bus that was used as living quarters by a staff member . But even though they were literally swamped , they never closed .
Walk around the park now and it ’ s almost impossible to believe that this was the scene just a few weeks ago .
The beach looks postcard-perfect . The sludge is gone , concrete slabs are clean and the pool sparkles . There are crews on site working on bigger projects . But it ’ s back to business as usual .
While you ’ re here
Enjoy the ocean-front living and make sure to visit Ellis Beach Bar & Grill just down the road for meals and live music .

PORT DOUGLAS
After some issues with water supplies , Port Douglas is now fully operational . The town feels quiet and that seems like another great reason to visit .
As you stroll down the main street , don ’ t be fooled by closed doors on some shops – they are just enjoying air-conditioning .
While you ’ re here
The view from Flagstaff Hill , Port Douglas , overlooking Four Mile Beach .
• Try a River Drift tour with Back Country Bliss Adventures ( https :/ / www . backcountrybliss . com . au ). Once kitted out with wetsuits ( in winter ) and rashies in summer ( just in case of mosquitoes ), guides lead you up the Mossman River along tributaries , with a few stops to catch your breath . Then you lay on your inflatable airbed and drift back down the river under the tropical rainforest canopy . Bliss !
• Take in the views at Flagstaff Hill .
• Swim ( with stinger suits in the safety nets ) at Four Mile Beach .
• Stop at St Mary ’ s by the Sea church for the prettiest photos .
