• Book a snorkelling trip on the Great Barrier Reef . The ocean is often flat this time of year as northerly winds hit the coast . Unfortunately , those winds also bring jellyfish from about November to March so cover up with a stinger suit . Companies like ABC Snorkel Charters takes small groups ( up to 12 ) to reefs off Port Douglas and the Low Isles while Quicksilver ferries larger groups to platforms on the Outer Reef .
• Visit Mossman Gorge to experience the World Heritagelisted Daintree Rainforest . From the Cultural Centre you can take a shuttle bus ( or walk 6km ) to where self-guided hikes begin . For a deeper understanding of the indigenous Kuku Yalanji land and culture , take a guided Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk .
Definitely take Brett ' s Outback Tasting Adventure . Here , we ' ve stopped at Emerald Creek Icecreamery .
• Where to eat ? There are so many great restaurants and cafes but I can recommend Zinc , Salsa Bar & Grill , Rattle & Hum and The Tin Shed .

ATHERTON TABLELANDS
A long-time favourite with RV owners , the Atherton Tablelands largely escaped cyclone damage . In fact , the region received a boost of sorts when the only route north from Cairns to Port Douglas was the ‘ back road ’ through Kuranda and Mareeba .
There ’ s so much to see and do in this food bowl of northern Queensland .
Self-drive tours will take you through avocado , mango and coffee plantations .
