RV TRAVEL
DAINTREE RIVER / DAINTREE VILLAGE
Independent day visitors can now take the ferry and head north of the Daintree River to Thornton , Alexandra Lookout , and visit attractions such as the Daintree Discovery Centre .
The road has been closed for more than two months but recently opened to allow small bus tours and those with accommodation bookings .
“ Sadly , the public still cannot head further north to Cape Tribulation and our thoughts are with the people who live and work there ,” Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive officer Mark Olsen said .
Cape Tribulation is still only for local access . The Bloomfield Track is closed . Daintree Village bears deep scars of Cyclone Jasper – but even that is worth seeing to appreciate how much has already been achieved in the recovery process . The village shops , information centre , booking office and caravan park are open .
While you ’ re here
Want to meet Scarface and his ‘ harem ’ of girls ? He is the ‘ crocstar ’ of TNQ and he ’ s just waiting to eye you off from the murky depths of the Daintree River . Solar Whisper Wildlife Cruises ( www . solarwhisper . com ) is on Cape Tribulation Road in the Lower Daintree ( follow the signs towards Daintree Village and turn off towards the ferry ). It runs nature-based cruises ( no croc-feeding here ) designed to educate and entertain . You ’ ll hear all about the ecosystem and the fabulous wildlife . It ’ s hard to believe that where you check-in for the tour was all under water during the floods .
