LETTERS FROM THE ROAD
SICK OF WEGHTS !
I am sick to death of reading about vehicle and caravan weights , both in your mag and in others . Everywhere I turn , I feel like I am being clobbered with this information . Give me stuff to read about solar panels , or places I can take my caravan . I love freecamping and enjoy those articles , and I always save the Freedom Camp of the Month articles for future reference . But if I have to read about Tare and towing capacity again , I think I am going to scream !
Rob Simmons
Hi Rob , thanks for your email . It ’ s true that we do publish articles about the various weight limitations involved in caravanning now and then . We do this because a ) it ’ s the most crucial information any new caravanner will read ; b ) I ’ m willing to bet even the most experienced vanners could use a refresher ; and c ) there are more new vanners on our roads than ever before .
I appreciate that you may find this stuff a bit tedious , especially if you ’ re already across it , but please bear with us – it ’ s important . – Ed
ELECTRIC BLUES
What ’ s all this about caravans going ‘ full electric ’? I am in the market for a caravan and have been doing some research . I used to go caravanning a lot in the 90s and early 2000s , and back then , you had a basic house battery , a couple gas bottles , and you ’ d just plug your van in at the caravan park . Now some caravans don ’ t even have gas bottles or gas cooktops ! What ’ s going on ?
Adrian Smith
There ’ s a revolution underway in terms of how we power our vans , to the point that gas cylinders are becoming unnecessary . My advice : embrace it . The technology is now there to support it . Like it or not , it is where we ’ re heading , and you could always pack a 4.5kg gas cylinder and camp stove , just in case . – Ed
