FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
Wine country is always appealing to us . As we followed the King River , south of Wangaratta , Vic , we pulled into a site favoured by many .
Edi Cutting is long . You can drive into a north or south entrance , and a 2km track between continues along the King River . If you are in a big rig , stay close to either entrance as the track does become very narrow between the two main areas .
Either end has a big clearing and a drop toilet . Swimming and fishing are popular here . With large , shady spots to camp , it is perfect for a large group get-together .
The downsides are , this campsite is close to the road , snakes are common , and it can become very busy .
However , it is free , pet-friendly , campfires are allowed , and you can camp beside the water with the added bonus of wineries all around . You might even spot a platypus !
We highly recommend Edi Cutting , and the turn-off camp closer to town . In fact , the King Valley is a delightful destination . Put it on your list !
