THE FRONT BOOT

BACKING A TRAILER JUST GOT EASIER

Reversing a trailer has gotten easier for owners of new Ford Rangers and Everests , with Ford ’ s Pro Trailer Backup Assist now offered as an option on those vehicles .
This feature , which is already standard on the Ford F-150 as of 2023 , uses sensors to track the position of the trailer . The driver needs to just turn a knob on the dash in the direction they ’ d like the trailer to go . The system then controls the steering wheel , automatically working out which way to turn to put the trailer where the driver wants . If you want the trailer to turn left , simply turn the knob to the left , put the car in reverse , and the vehicle will do the rest .
While reversing , the driver can make further adjustments to ‘ fine tune ’ the direction of the trailer , with the driver at all times remaining in control of the accelerator and brake pedal . The system takes into account the trailer ’ s dimensions and , fortunately , as many as 10 trailers can be stored in the system .
But we have one question : is this a good idea for caravanners , or should they learn to reverse a trailer themselves without relying on modern technology ? Write to info @ gorv . com . au to let us know !
