TEST YOUR BRAKE CONTROLLER !

ROLLING BRAKE CHECKS

This is a must . After checking that the indicators , brake lights , etc ., work , and I am underway , I ’ ll always pay attention to the setting of the brake controller . ( As an aside , the amount of times I ’ ve seen or heard of someone towing without a brake controller because they are only going ‘ down the road ’ is worrying .)

Now , if you ’ ve towed anything heavier than that 8x5 cage trailer , you ’ ll know how the van ’ s momentum will continue to ‘ push ’ the tow vehicle if it isn ’ t sufficiently independently braked . Further , if you ’ ve ever found yourself stomping on that brake pedal for all it ’ s worth because the car in front has suddenly , heavily braked and your van ’ s brakes haven ’ t been adjusted properly , you ’ ll understand what I ’ m talking about .
