When adjusting the brake controller , I aim for the tow vehicle and van to ‘ feel ’ as though they are braking as one combined unit . If the van ’ s brakes feel as though they are ‘ grabbing ’ or ‘ pulling ’ on the tow tug , I ’ ll adjust the controller down . If it feels as though the van is pushing the tow vehicle when I brake , I ’ ll adjust the controller up .
In my situation , towing different vans with different vehicles ( but often with my own MU-X ), this check is critical . However , for caravanners who tow the same van with the same car , it may be a case of finding the ideal setting once ; however , I ’ d still have it in the back of my mind each time I climbed behind the steering wheel .
