RV FEATURE
One thing is certain : if you ' re open to it , you ' ll make loads of new friends when on the road .
4 . MAKE LISTS !
Work from lists when packing up . In fact , have two lists : one for internal things , one for external things . Bruce has a mental list for outside the caravan , because he prefers not to work from written lists , while Marg has a checklist for the inside of the van . Stick to these in an orderly manner and you won ’ t forget anything important .
5 . DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR ROUTE
A GPS is not necessarily correct all the time . You should often consult a paper map to make sure you are on good roads . You may have already experienced being taken down the incorrect route that the GPS suggests , only to find yourself in an awkward spot , unable to turn around .
6 . SITE OPTIONS
Consider all options when it comes to staying overnight . The last few years have seen an increase in available camping spots . As well as a variety of caravan parks , there are show-grounds and recreation reserves , farm stays and sporting clubs offering good camping facilities . Work out what ’ s best for you , your needs and your budget .
7 . SHOP LOCALLY
Shop for local and in-season produce . Use farm gate stalls . A great example of this can be seen in Tasmania , where many outlets are coordinated in the summer months . Roadside stalls offer all sorts of fresh produce from berries , eggs , bread , even ice cream . In Queensland , we support stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables , such as avocados and passionfruit . The produce is always fresher and cheaper and you are helping a local grower .
