LETTERS FROM
THE ROAD
SHOW DOG
REGO RIP-OFF
I agree that New South
Wales has some of highest
costs for trailer registration
(GoRV.com.au – October
2017). I used to work for the
RMS in New South Wales
and the tax paid on trailer
registration was the same
as you paid on your vehicle.
I have just purchased a
van and I agree that some
lobbying should be done on
government and opposition
to try to get the price
down. Now would seem
the best time to attack the
government on this issue.
It could be a vote changer.

MORE SAFETY
INITIATIVES, PLEASE
Very interesting (caravan
safety inspection video
– GoRV #8). I just wish
someone would do
this here in New South
Wales because, as was
said in the video, there
is definitely a lot of
confusion surrounding this
topic and we are among
those confused.
We try to do the right
thing by us and other road
users. We even went to
the police station to find
out but even they couldn't
explain it (safe towing and
hitching) very clearly.
Thanks for the insight
– we will keep working
on trying to find the
right answers.

I am a return soldier of 25
years. I unfortunately suffer
from PTSD from overseas
service and having my carer
dog helps me to cope with
(lots of) people around me.
My dog is clearly cleaner
than some and some people
who sneeze and coughs all
over everyone.
So please don't stop dogs
from being allowed to
attend caravan and camping
shows or some of us will
never get out of the house
and that would not be fair.

Sunshine Coast, Qld
G’day Stephen, thanks for
your letter. By all accounts,
and certainly my own
observations, the initiative
of the Caravan Trades and
Industries Association
of Victoria allowing dogs to
attend first the Border Caravan
and Camping Expo and then
Melbourne Leisurefest was
quite successful. I’m certainly
not aware of any complaints.
I think we can expect to
see more dogs at shows in
the future. – Ed
