TRAVELS WITH KINGDEANO ADVENTURES
Escaping the winter chill , we recently spent a few nights in beautiful sunny Cairns , Qld . As our cavoodle Twyla was being dog-sat , we thought we ’ d take advantage of being dog-free and see some local sights that we normally couldn ’ t see while travelling with a dog .
While in Cairns , we stayed at G ’ Day Holiday Park , First City Caravilla . The park was close to town and had everything we needed , including a pool – and ironically , we didn ’ t get time for a swim .
After a quick breakfast , we headed to the CBD and visited the Cairns Aquarium . The attraction is home to many exhibits that house over 16,000 marine and land animals from the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland ' s Wet Tropics Rainforest regions . The Aquarium was an incredible experience and , dare we say , the best aquarium we ’ ve visited ! We enjoyed the live presentations where staff would share their knowledge of the animals and marine life .
A highlight of the aquarium was its large coral water tank that spanned multiple floors , where we saw divers feed the fish . There was also a separate walk-through tank with sharks , stingrays , and other sea life . Young and old would enjoy visiting the aquarium to learn about local marine life and the Great Barrier Reef .
After a mid-morning coffee and slice , we checked out Cairns ’ boardwalk , the main street , and Cairns Esplanade Lagoon . We didn ’ t have time for a dip , but many tourists and locals enjoyed having a paddle and swim in the crystal blue water of the pool .
Across the road from the lagoon , we were spoilt for choice with many lunch options . We decided to enjoy some Italian for lunch and took a street-view table at Villa Romana Restaurant . The Italian cuisine was delicious , with generous servings of pasta .
