LETTERS FROM THE ROAD

I TRUST NO ONE
From reading the stories regarding Tango Caravans ’ collapse , it seems the common theme was people paying very large sums of money upfront . In my opinion , this is a big no-no !
I recently purchased a new van from a very well-established caravan and motorhome builder . I was required to pay a 10 per cent deposit to commence the build . After four months , we received a call that our van was ready for pick-up .
We arrived at the dealer ’ s showroom , inspected the van and then transferred the remaining funds . These days , I trust no one .
It is so sad that these people were pressured into paying upfront for something that they never received and there needs to be more education for people and enforceable penalties for the companies and their directors who are ripping people off .

TOUGH PENALTIES REQUIRED
This ( Tango ) fiasco is not much different to the building industry where a company goes bankrupt and suddenly reappears under another name with the same directors .
It is about time that the directors of such companies are held responsible from the minute the liquidators are called in . I find it hard to believe that company directors cannot see failure coming .
Instant seizure of property and other assets would give them pause for thought and I am sure that their spouses would give them a bit of stick too !
