It was an eye-opening experience – multiple factories are dedicated to separate processes and models . Jayco has also installed multiple bays in which each van is subjected to external water tests to check for leaks before they leave the factory . Internal positivepressure testing is also conducted .
As our time with Gerry drew to a close , I asked him if he had a fondness for any one model he had built over his five decades . Unsurprisingly , with a smile , he went immediately to that first JayDove .
“ It was low to tow and big to live in ,” he said . I suppose it comes down to this : you always remember firsts . Following the success of the JayDove , Gerry built an empire . When he watched it leave the shed in Cranbourne 50 years ago , no doubt with a sense of pride and apprehension , he could not have known the impact he and the people who worked for him would have on Australia ’ s RV industry , nor on the thousands of customers who would live their dreams in the things Gerry built .
A new cladding colour , known as Dune , is available for the Discovery this year .
