LETTERS FROM THE ROAD

BATTERY POTENTIAL
I read with interest the articles on extra batteries and the issues involved. What if, instead of extra batteries in the caravan, they were carried in the car itself? I’ m talking, of course, about hybrid vehicles, some of which have a bidirectional capacity.
Some of the larger ones have a towing capacity of 1500kg so we are talking at the moment about small vans. The batteries in these vehicle are quite large; reportedly enough to power a house for three days, easily capable of supporting a caravan.
There are a few possibilities. Why carry a generator when it is built into the car and a lot quieter too?
It would be great to have an article on possible hybrid tow vehicles and their possibilities with caravans. What about a road towing test? I have read one for a Mitsubishi Outlander towing a van that seems possible but the person involved was obviously not experienced in caravanning.
If you have an opinion or thought about the RV lifestyle, or about this digital
magazine, we’ d like to hear it! Email your feedback to info @ gorv. com. au
Finally, an article exploring the capabilities of bidirectional hybrids with a caravan set-up. Is there anyone out there with experience of towing with a hybrid vehicle?

Thanks for your letter, John. There is indeed a lot of potential when it comes to high-capacity batteries and their application to the RV lifestyle, and we have so far only scratched the surface. – Ed
PAWS FOR THOUGHT
I get so sick of people complaining about kids in caravan parks, especially kids and their behaviour. I personally don’ t mind the sound of kids having fun and if they happen to dart through my site now and then, who cares? They’ re kids. Let them have fun, as long as they’ re not hurting anyone or being intentionally rude or disrespectful.
To an extent, I feel the same about dogs. I know not everyone likes them in caravan parks, but I would never leave home without my fur baby. So to everyone who gets wound up by dogs and kids in van parks, I say: chill out!
